Samsung's new Galaxy Tab S12 lineup gives buyers two large-screen choices. The decision is less about finding the most powerful-looking specification sheet and more about where the tablet will be used. A device that feels comfortable at a desk can become awkward on a crowded commute.
The main specifications
Samsung's announcement lists the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S12+, with an S Pen included in the box. Both use the Dimensity 9500 and run Android 17 with One UI 9.
| Specification | Tab S12 Ultra | Tab S12+ |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 14.6-inch, 120Hz AMOLED | 12.6-inch, 120Hz AMOLED |
| Thickness | 5.1mm | 5.3mm |
| Wi-Fi model weight | 692g | 553g |
| Battery capacity | 11,600mAh | 10,600mAh |
| Wired charging support | 45W | 45W |
| Wi-Fi generation | Wi-Fi 7 | Wi-Fi 6E |
Specifications and configurations may vary by market. The official specification table also lists microSD expansion up to 2TB; buyers should confirm supported card formats and performance for their intended use.
Which screen fits studying better?
Think about the documents you actually open. A scanned textbook with small print benefits from more usable space, especially when a notes app is placed beside it. For lecture notes, a smaller tablet may be easier to move between a desk, classroom and sofa.
Before choosing, open a sample PDF on a display unit. Check whether you can read a complete page comfortably, write near its edges and move between pages without constantly changing zoom. That exercise reveals more about your study workflow than the diagonal display measurement alone.
Can either replace a laptop?
Make a list of your essential applications before buying. A browser, office suite and file manager may be enough for some work, while a desktop development environment or specialist programme may still require a computer. Having a keyboard does not automatically give a tablet the same software capabilities as a laptop.
Try the whole workflow: download a file, edit it, rename it, export it and send it to someone else. Also check whether an external display behaves as you expect. Small interruptions repeated every day can outweigh a device's advantages in portability.
Work out the complete cost
Use the price of the configuration you will actually buy. Add a keyboard or cover, a compatible charger if needed and any paid apps. Compare that total with alternatives that can perform the same tasks. A promotional price tied to one bank card should be shown separately from the standard price.
This is a specification-based comparison, not a battery or performance test. Indian pricing and confirmed local availability need a country-specific Samsung listing. Avoid converting an overseas launch price into rupees and presenting it as the Indian retail price.
