Apple’s App Store Indie Games Week has started on 12 October 2026, giving iPhone and iPad players a focused place to discover games from independent studios. The selection includes familiar names, but the useful part for players is knowing which games they can download now and which release dates are still ahead.
Apple’s announcement highlights seven titles: Sifu, Vampire Crawlers, No Man’s Sky, Little Kitty, Big City, 9 Kings, Dome Keeper, and Yes, Your Grace 2: Snowfall. Availability is not identical across the lineup. No Man’s Sky’s mobile debut is scheduled for 28 October.
What is App Store Indie Games Week?
The promotion gives independent games extra attention through App Store features and collections. For someone browsing on a phone, that is a more manageable starting point than searching through a large games catalog without a particular title in mind.
It also makes this a useful week to look beyond the usual chart leaders. A recognizable name can help a game get noticed, but screenshots, controls, and device requirements tell you much more about whether you will actually enjoy playing it.
Start with the kind of game you want to play
A good way to approach the lineup is to choose a playing situation first. Are you looking for something to open during a short break, a game to settle into on an iPad, or a title you would prefer to play with a controller?
Those are different needs. A game that looks impressive in a trailer may be a poor fit for a five-minute session. Conversely, a smaller-looking release could become the one you return to every evening. Use the App Store previews to judge the pace and presentation rather than treating every featured title as an automatic purchase.
For Sifu in particular, Apple describes a mobile adaptation with touch controls and controller support. If precise inputs matter to you, compare the available control options before choosing how to play.
Four things to check before downloading
- Device compatibility: Read the listing for your exact iPhone or iPad, rather than assuming that a recent iOS version is enough.
- Storage: Check the listed download size and leave room for your other apps and media.
- Payment details: Read the local storefront price and any listed in-app purchases.
- Controls: Look for the developer’s information about touch input and controller support.
These checks are especially useful when a game is arriving on mobile after a release on other platforms. Owning another version should not be treated as proof that the mobile download is included.
Is every featured game available today?
No Man’s Sky has a later mobile release date, so a pre-order listing should not be confused with a playable download. For the other featured titles, use the live App Store page to confirm what is available in your region.
Indie Games Week is a discovery opportunity. The best purchase is the game that fits your device, preferred controls, and available playing time. A few minutes spent reading the listing can be more useful than a long download you never finish playing.
